I’m a woman who loves her salsa. I have gone as far as ordering my favorite brand direct from Mexico when I couldn’t find it stateside anymore. The case (with 24 bottles) didn’t last more than 6 months.
This easy Homemade Salsa recipe is ready in just 3 minutes using a blender. It’s a mix of tomatoes, jalapenos, garlic, onion, cilantro, and green chile.
After dropping some serious dough on bottled tomatoes and accompanying veggies and spices (as well as going through that stash too quickly) I decided I needed to make my own for pennies on the dollar.
Money saved on salsa goes straight to saving for bigger and better kitchen appliances…. like Blendtec blenders.
Make sure to PIN 3-Minute Salsa!
I am also a woman on the go so I wanted to make this as quick and painless as possible in terms of assembly. As you have probably already guessed, 3-Minute Salsa is ready in just 3 minutes.
How does this magic work? I use tomatoes and green chiles in the can (prep saved) and then I add in fresh onion, fresh garlic, fresh jalapeno, and fresh cilantro. Talk about a solution.
My Blendtec blender does the rest in just a few pulses and voila, fresh salsa tastier than anything you can get in a jar. By using canned tomatoes and green chiles, you save loads of time on roasted and peeling.
Salsa is a Spanish word that translates to “sauce.” Any sauce, really. That said the salsa we associate it with here in the states is the Mexican adaptation of the tomato and chile mixture also known as salsa roja or salsa picante.
Both are loosely structured in terms of recipes, but the one constant is the need for acidity.
Once the salsa is prepared, serve it with whatever you like! I love chips and salsa snack, but you can also incorporate it into your favorite breakfast burritos, over crock pot breakfast casserole, it can be spooned over a great steak, added to your burgers, or put it on homemade nachos. The options are endless.
If you are craving fresh tomatoes and chilies and happen to have an abundance of them, you can easily substitute those in for the canned version. That said, I will warn you that the 3-minutes it takes for the original
recipe might balloon into the 45-minute area.
I love being able to use a blender for this salsa because it is such a great time saver.
Blenders aren’t just for smoothies and blended drinks, with a Blendtec you can also make a variety of salsas, sauces, and spreads, as well as mix together dough and batters.
Simple to use and simple to clean, Blendtec’s touch screen has pre-programmed options for making these items in addition to the ability to operate manually using a slider function.
If you like this salsa recipe, you’ll also love these!
Serve salsa on top of some of our Mexican food favorites:
3-Minute Salsa
Ingredients
- 4-6 garlic cloves coarsely chopped
- 1-2 jalapenos stems and seeds removed, cut into quarters
- 1/2 red onion cut into quarters
- 1/2 cup cilantro loosely packed and stems included
- 28 ounces diced tomatoes drained
- 8 ounces diced green chiles drained
Instructions
- Place garlic through cilantro into your blender. Pulse several times until finely chopped.
- Add drained tomatoes and green chiles. Choose the “sauces” option for 5 seconds. Do not over mix, otherwise the power of your blender will result in juicing instead of a chunky salsa.
