Easy Ingredient List
Make your own hummus (it’s easy with a food processor) or grab a plain hummus at the store and just add this tasty harissa recipe. A full printable recipe with measurable ingredients is available below.
- Chickpeas– Chickpeas vary greatly in texture, try different brands to find one you prefer. I like a creamy chickpea and Goya is my go-to brand.
- Harissa Sauce– Harissa is a Tunisian hot chili pepper paste, the main ingredients of which are roasted red peppers, Baklouti pepper, serrano peppers, and other hot chili peppers, spices and herbs such as garlic paste, coriander seed, saffron, rose, or caraway, as well as some vegetable or olive oil to carry the oil-soluble flavors. This can also be purchased in a jar.

What to Serve It With
Harissa hummus is so versatile — you can use it in so many ways! For a lighter option, pair it as an appetizer with crunchy sliced cucumbers, carrots, celery, toast, pita bread recipe, tortilla chips, or pita chips or put it on a cheese board.
You can also serve it as a salad dressing. It also tastes great on sandwiches and salads or to make a chicken hummus bowl.
Harissa Hummus Recipe

Ingredients
- 30 ounces chickpeas , canned, rinsed and drained
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 4 large garlic cloves , minced
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 15 ounces tahini sauce
- 1/3 cup lemon juice
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2- 1 cup harissa sauce
- 1-2 teaspoons black sesame seeds
Instructions
- Place the rinsed and drained 30 ounces chickpeas and 1 teaspoon baking soda into a medium saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to a low boil. Stir occasionally and cook for 15-20 minutes or until beans are super squishy. Remove, drain and cool.
- In large food processor, combine drained chickpeas, coarsely chopped 4 large garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 15 ounces tahini sauce, 1/3 cup lemon juice and 1/3 cup water. Blend until super smooth.
- Place in serving dish, making a dent in the center. Spoon in 1/2- 1 cups of the harissa sauce and drizzle with the 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil1-2 teaspoons black sesame seeds. Also, try swirling it around to distribute the flavors.
