After a long day at work, sometimes all you need is a simple cocktail. However, every now and then it’s fun to make a more involved cocktail full of herbal flavor. A classic gin cocktail is perfect for that.

Gin has a strong floral flavor that people either love or hate. But that floral aroma pairs extremely well with things like citrus juice, orange blossom water and earl grey tea. The options for mixing up gin cocktails are really endless!

There are a few ingredients that you could keep on hand to ensure you make the best refreshing gin cocktail.

  • Soda water or club soda
  • Sweet vermouth
  • Dry vermouth
  • Maraschino liqueur
  • Sugar syrup or honey syrup
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Mint leaves
  • Elderflower liqueur
  • Fresh orange juice
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Ginger ale
  • Orange liqueur

As far as the garnishes you will use, here are a few of the most popular:

  • Fresh fruit
  • Lemon twist
  • Orange twist
  • Lime wedges
  • Lemon slice

And to keep your bar cabinet equipment up to date and stocked, here are a few things you’ll want to have:

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Classic martini glass
  • Rocks glass
  • And of course ice cubes

Once you’ve got your pantry and bar cabinet stocked, you’re ready to make your favorite gin drinks from a singapore sling to an aviation cocktail to everything in between.

Classic Gin Cocktails

While the list of gin cocktails is pretty endless, there are some classics that are good to have in your repertoire to tart with.

  • Gin and tonic – Also known as a classic g&t, this cocktail is at simple as it sounds: a good quality gin and tonic water. It is often garnished with a lime wedge.
  • Gin martini – This classic also requires only two ingredients: gin and dry vermouth. This is shaken with ice and poured into a martini glass.
  • Hanky panky – This is a simple gin cocktail made with sweet vermouth, a dash of Italian bitters and a little bit of orange juice.
  • Gimlet – Similar to the other classic, this one has simple ingredients. Made with gin, lime juice and simple syrup.
  • Negroni – This one is a little more involved because it includes something that not everyone has: Campari. It’s a combination of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth.

If you’re not a fan of the classics, we’ve rounded up the best fun gin libations below. You’re sure to find something you’d like to try!
