Gather This
You only need a handful of simple ingredients and two cereals to make this snickerdoodle puppy chow. A full list of ingredients with measurements for this recipe is available in the printable recipe card below.
- Rice Chex cereal – This cereal is the base of the puppy chow. Be gentle when mixing it with the chocolate so that the pieces don’t break up too much.
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal – Straying a bit from the traditional cereal used in puppy chow, this helps to give that iconic cinnamon-y snickerdoodle flavor.
- Powdered sugar
- Ground cinnamon
- Fine sea salt
- White chocolate chips
- Vegetable shortening or unsalted butter
- Milk
5S Philosophy 👩🏻
- Salt – I like to use unsalted butter to be able to control the salt content of this snickerdoodle puppy chow. I then add a pinch of fine sea salt to help bring out the other flavors.
- Seasonings – To add even more warmth to this sweet snack, try adding pumpkin pie spice or nutmeg in addition to the cinnamon.
- Swaps – Substitute another variety of Chex — Corn Chex is a great gluten-free alternative or use Cinnamon Chex for even more warm flavor. Or use another cereal altogether, like Crispix or Cheerios.
- Senses – Sweet, crunchy, and coated in cinnamon-sugar, snickerdoodle puppy chow bursts with warm spice, melts with sugary sweetness, and leaves a buttery cookie flavor that lingers.

- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 12 ounces white chocolate cups
- 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening or unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal
Instructions
- Place the 4 cups Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Place the 2 cups powdered sugar. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt in large airtight plastic bag, shaking to evenly mix. Set aside.
- In a small saucepan, heat the 12 ounces white chocolate cups 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening or unsalted butter over low heat, stirring continuously until the chocolate has melted then pour in the 2 tablespoons milk. Do not overheat, white chocolate is extremely temperamental and will seize easily.
- When melted, pour the white chocolate mixture over the cereal, tossing gently to coat, then immediatly transfering to the bag with powdered sugar while tacky.
- Toss the cereal in the bag (you may have to work in batches) until coated, then turn out onto a rimmed baking sheet to cool.
- When set, sprinkle the 2 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal into the coated cereal mixture and serve.
