Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh cherries (about 3 cups) ,stems removed and pitted*
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch**
  • 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or brandy

Instructions

  1. Heat cherries, sugar, lemon juice, fine sea salt and cornstarch in a heavy bottom sauce pan over medium heat.
  2. Continue to simmer and stir until sauce starts to thicken and becomes sticky, approximately 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. If adding liquor, stir in now.

Recipe Notes

*You can also use frozen cherries, but it may take slightly longer to simmer down to a sticky sauce. **Two tablespoons arrowroot can be substituted for cornstarch.
