I have a confession. I just watched Star Wars for the first time. I know, I know- crazy talk! However, I had seen Space Balls, so the first time I watched it, hubby was getting really annoyed that I kept making comparisons. Hehehe.
Super easy Yoda and Chewie cupcakes. If I can make these easy Star Wars cupcakes, so can you!
Then one day he says “can you make me a Yoda cupcake”? I saw this as a challenge- game on! The only problem is that I am a terrible cake decorator.
I don’t have a steady hand and while I’m creative with flavors, not so much with art. So I had to find some items to help me fudge a Yoda without actually having to be talented.
I had successfully done this before with my Bunny Butt Cupcakes and Horse Cookies, so it was merely a matter of finding the right candy.
After a whole bunch of green flavored candy, trial and error and staring at a Google image search of Yoda, I found the perfect ears in a few snipped JuJu Fish. Sour Patch Kids were a close second, but were perfect for his little scrunched up nose.
The ideal green for Yoda is made from white frosting colored with kelly green and a touch of brown. The eyes were easy, just store bought googly eyes with another kelly green tubed frosting. A white gel and a toothpick create Yoda’s wisdom lines.
Since I already was hard at work, I noticed a picture of Chewie and figured it couldn’t be too hard to create a little fur. A multi-opening decorating tip is the perfect way to do just this super fast.
A little chocolate frosting, candy eyes and the same white frosting for a mouth and BOOM- Chewie.
I know your family will enjoy Yoda and Chewie Star Wars Cupcakes just as much as mine! Tell me who your favorite Star Wars Character is in the comments section!

Chewie Cupcakes:
- 12 cupcakes whatever flavor you like
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- 24 candy eyes
- Tubed white gel frosting
- Multi-opening tip
- Toothpicks
Instructions
For Yoda:
- Trim off the rounded top of all cupcakes.
- Blend white frosting with a healthy dab of kelly green food coloring. When you establish a pretty green, add a dot or two of brown food coloring to muddy it up slightly.
- Frost all cupcakes and then using a flat edged spatula, create a smooth surface.
- Snip the tails off all JuJu Fish and cut them in half, so they aren’t as thick. Break 12 toothpicks in half and insert them into the thickest part of the JuJu Fish. Place two on each cupcake at the center.
- Directly in the middle of the ears, place two eyes with similar sized pupils with enough space in between to create a cats eye effect.
- Using a small round tip or a plastic bag with a corner snipped, pipe Kelly Green tubed frosting on Yoda’s lids over the candy eyes. Using a toothpick, spread frosting into a cat’s eye shape. Also dab a small amount on the ears to cover up the toothpick holes.
- Using a small round tip or a plastic bag with a corner snipped, pipe a small amount of black frosting. Use a toothpick to create a Jedi smirk.
- With the white gel frosting, pipe three arches on the forehead and then drag a toothpick through four times to create his wisdom lines. Same for his smile lines around his mouth.
For Chewie Cupcakes:
- Trim off the rounded top of all cupcakes.
- Using the multi-opening tip in a frosting bag, pipe out chocolate frosting in a dabbing motion.
- Place candy eyes close together towards the top of your cupcake.
- Using a the white gel frosting, create a mouth. And use black tubed frosting for a dabbed nose.
- If you’ve tried this recipe, come back and let us know how it was!
